SportWoche Podcast: Trailbeard talks about ultra experiences
On the SportWoche podcast, I explain how failing to run 5 km as a young entrepreneur led to an international ultra trail career and #lifeworktrailbalance.
A guest on the SportWoche podcast
I joined season three, episode five of the SportWoche podcast as “Trailbeard” for a conversation about ultra experiences, transformation and turning a failed run into a philosophy for life.
From failing at 5 km to ultra trail running
SportWoche picked up the story that defines my life. As a young entrepreneur, I could not run five kilometres. Today, I am among Austria’s most successful ultra trail runners. In between lie years of development, failure and getting back up.
First-hand ultra experiences
Over 30 minutes, I discuss:
- The beginning: why I started running, and why the first attempt ended so badly
- The milestones: UTMB 2018 (ninth place), Eiger250 and the races that shaped me
- The dark moments: standing alone on a mountain in the middle of the night, when everything hurts
- The lessons: what ultra trail running teaches about leadership, resilience and self-management
#lifeworktrailbalance as a common thread
My idea of #lifeworktrailbalance runs throughout the conversation. As a CEO, father and ultra runner, balance is the key, and also the greatest challenge.
