Laola1.at: The “lowland Tyrolean” is Trail Runner of the Year again
The trail running community has voted Florian Grasel Trail Runner of the Year!

As in the previous year, Lower Austrian Florian Grasel won the public vote for Austrian Trail Runner of the Year. In 2018, the 37-year-old IT entrepreneur from Bad Erlach enjoyed success at races including Hochkönig and Salzburg100. But the race of his life came at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc: finishing ninth, he became the first Austrian to reach the top 10 at the “Olympics of trail running”.
“I am delighted to have been voted Trail Runner of the Year again,” says Florian Grasel.
A “lowland Tyrolean” at a training disadvantage
The Lower Austrian adds: “The title shines even brighter for me because, compared with the country’s other leading runners, I feel like a lowland Tyrolean. While others have endless elevation available for training in the Alps, I mostly train on a hill behind my house with 111 metres of elevation gain…”
Grasel has not yet finalised his 2019 racing schedule, “but I have a big project in mind for the second half of the year.”
