The motivation
Why I’m building this.
A drive should be enjoyable. Documenting it should take as little effort as possible. With Plakettl, I want to show how a focused application can solve an everyday problem: two photos, a quick check and a traceable entry.
The problem behind the idea
Dates, odometer readings and locations need to fit together. There are also driving days, later corrections and records for vehicle inspection to consider. Reconstructing a trip afterwards can leave gaps. A digital solution therefore needs to be easy to use from the moment you set off.
The implementation
How I’m approaching it.
Photograph the odometer before departure and on arrival. Text recognition suggests the mileage; the user checks and confirms the details. Plakettl counts driving days and records corrections as additional entries. A print view and a complete backup with photos make the records usable outside the app too.
A recognised odometer reading is a suggestion. A quick look at the photo still matters, especially when the dashboard shows several numbers.
An honest look at the progress
Built. And still building.
What works today
- Record departure and arrival with photos, then check and confirm suggested odometer readings.
- Count driving days and, when needed, record operating hours, late entries or trips spanning several days.
- Trace corrections, print an overview and back up the complete logbook including photos.
What I’m working on next
- Try the camera and mileage recognition with different odometers on iPhone and Android in everyday use.
- Verify sign-in, switching devices and restoring records in real operation.
- Review a sample logbook with a qualified inspection body. Official approval of the app is still outstanding.
