WNTV 2019: My first TV interview about ultra trail running

In my first WNTV television interview in 2019, I discuss my passion for ultra trail running, the UTMB and what it means to push your limits.

My first TV interview with WNTV

In 2019, I was a guest on Wiener Neustadt’s private television station WNTV for the first time. It was a year after my ninth place at the UTMB, arguably the most significant result of my running career so far.

What was at stake

In 2018, I had finished ninth at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, the world’s most prestigious ultra trail race: 170 kilometres and 10,000 metres of climbing in 23 hours and 12 minutes. The best Austrian result in the race’s history.

In the WNTV interview, I look back on that experience and describe what it means to run among the world’s top 10, and how it affected my life as an entrepreneur and father.

Explaining ultra trail running

One challenge was explaining ultra trail running to a broad audience. Why would someone voluntarily run 170 kilometres through the night? What happens in your mind when your body wants to stop? And how does that fit with a normal working life?

The start of a media journey

This interview marked the beginning of a series of media appearances, from regional newspapers and specialist magazines to international podcasts. People were fascinated by the story of the IT entrepreneur from Bad Erlach who was also one of Austria’s best ultra trail runners.
